Company Overview
Terra Drive Systems, Inc., headquartered in Brookston, Indiana, is a leading designer and manufacturer of steerable hydraulic drive systems for on- and off-highway motorized specialty equipment serving multiple end-markets. The Company utilizes a highly capable production facility to supply markets in North America, South America and Europe. Through the Company's history, it has been recognized for its industry leading design and engineering capabilities, as well as a track record of continuous innovation.
The Company's origins are tied to Fairfield Manufacturing based in Lafayette, Indiana and Hagie High Cycle Sprayers, a customer of Fairfield Manufacturing. In 1974, John Knobloch and Ray Shepard, inventors of a key Fairfield technology, collaborated with Willie Brewer, Director of Engineering at Hagie High Cycle Sprayers, to produce powered, steerable wheels of combines. As a result, Mud Hog was established in Brookston, IN in 1975. The Company originally focused exclusively on producing hydraulic drive axles for agricultural equipment. Mud Hog remained a family owned business until it was acquired by Dyneer in 1981 and combined with Dyneer's heavy highway truck components business to form Fluidrive, Inc. Subsequently, Fluidrive changed ownership twice before it was finally purchased by Tuthill Corporation in 1998.
In 2012, HCI purchased The Company from Tuthill Corporation and renamed The Company Terra Drive Systems.
